CENIC Members Can Access Cloud ServicesMembers of the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC), including the California Community Colleges, can now take advantage of cloud services from CenturyLink, FireHost and Verizon without going through a local proposal process.

CENIC's Master Service Agreements with the three companies simplifies adoption of cloud infrastructure for the California Community Colleges (CCC), California State University and University of California systems. All three systems participated in a lengthy Request for Proposals process beginning in 2012. CENIC’s contract with FireHost was announced earlier this year.

"We're especially pleased, given the breadth of services now available from CenturyLink, FireHost, and Verizon, that CENIC members will be able to obtain an appropriate level of service, whatever their particular requirements may be, whether for research, education or administrative activities," said CENIC President and CEO Louis Fox.

For the CCC, access to cloud services over the California Research & Education Network (CalREN) will support a systemwide migration to online college applications and other education tools.

"Our colleges now have the ability to access superior virtual data center services directly peered with the CENIC network,” said Tim Calhoon, Executive Director of the CCC Technology Center. “The speed and security afforded by this arrangement will enable the colleges to further assure that the information and online applications used by over 2 million community college students, faculty and staff are always available."
